Also featured are three remixes.

Netherlands' supremo, Mr Pauli (Clone/Viewlexx) contributes a bubbling hi-energised S.A.W vibe, so good that Pete Burns would forgo a collagen injection for it. "Hi-NRG disco party in my head".

The Shelflife label's Parisian based Thieves Like Us toss their hat into the remix ring with a tremendous NYC early '80's indie-electro-funk-groove with what sounds like Kittin duetting on vox. Reminiscent of a sort of Kid Creole and the Coconuts meets Stevie Wonder’s younger brothers. "Funky-indie-disco party in my head".

Kiko, doyen of the Grenoble scene (along with Miss Kittin & The Hacker of course) smashes a home run with his tinker bell-buzzing acid workout, very wobbly. Excellent sawn-off pump action stuff. "Druggy all-night party in my head".

It's been far too long since the release of their era-defining classic "1st
Album", but wait no more, dear music lover, for they are back with a bang. And
you'd better believe, it's a big, cosmic "bang".

Miss Kittin & The Hacker have not only forged a new path on this impressive
collection of new material, but also, by transforming and remodelling their many
musical influences, they have fashioned a club-based European cyber-pop of their
very own.
The album also features a wonderful, stellar sprinkling of metallic soul,
glamorous space disco, glossy vocal nuances, crystalline beats and swirling
melodies. The music possesses a sexy androgyny, glistening and pulsating. And
the songs? Sometimes narrative, sometimes confessional, direct and alternatively
clouded in mystery. And the lyrics, are they... "blue or grey"?

Let's talk about the songs!

"The Womb". A gently lapping, intergalactic introduction succumbs to a
tumultuous thumping early Madchester style robo-rhythm with Miss Kittin intoning
"Evolution" in her best Shaun Ryder. An opening blast-off.

"1000 Dreams". Begins life in the land of Space's "Magic Fly" and ascends into a
lovely warm euro-tinged track with a nod to Propaganda and classic 80's synth
pop. A beautiful melody line from The Hacker sends the track into the
stratosphere. This is the second commercially available single release from the
album.

"PPPO". Or, if you prefer: People, Pleasure, Objects, Power. Is this what Nitzer
Ebb might have sounded like if they were sexier? This is electronic music at
it's best, bursting with energy, hooks, dynamism and power. Watch out for this
track on a pre-release to the clubs as the first single complete with Function's
(Sandwell District) remix, before the album release.

"Party in my Head". Classic Moroder meets disco era Blondie. On Saturn. A dance
track, which conjures up visions of dry ice, ultra-violet lighting and spinning
mirror ball reflections. There's a constant party in someone's head, somewhere,
is there not? Check this out when it is released commercially as the third
single after the album release date. It will also feature remixes.

"Indulgence". Full-on electro-rock n' roll EBM dance-floor work out. Will sound
extremely dangerous gushing forth from a huge speaker stack in a club. A live
killer.

"Emotional Interlude". An image of Düsseldorf lingers in the foreground. Miami
(or perhaps Detroit) skyline is in the hinter-ground. Kittin intones a sinuous
mantra over The Hacker's growling bass drones. Gorgeous.

"Suspicious Minds". The spirit of the King lives on in this sweetest cover
version and the first Kittin & Hacker vocal duet. Had he been around, the King
would have gotten on down to this at Studio 54 for sure. In his white suit.

"Electronic City". Original metal beat minimalism (Conny Plank / John Foxx
style) dissolves into the purist of neon melodies. A wonderful and extremely
moving track, contrasting (and then fusing) starkness and warmth. It's all
present here. Berlin... are you listening?

"Inutile Éternité". Futile Eternity. In which the BBC Radiophonic Workshop
guided by The Hacker has kidnapped Kittin and tele-transported her to Spirea X.
Ultra-Nu Beat for the 21st Century.

"Ray Ban". Potentially the perfect TV ad soundtrack for your favourite
after-hours shades and eye-wear brand. "Is it grey? Or blue?" What is reality?
Sometimes, it's not so easy to tell when one steps out of the club.

"1000 Dreams (Reprise)". A luscious electronic lullaby for the end to a perfect
evening brings the album to a soothing and gentle close. In the twilight of a
listen. A fitting ending to an excellent album.

Miss Kittin and The Hacker hit the road in 2009 and will be appearing live
across Europe from April onwards, hitting the USA in September and then onto
Asia and Australia. Dates to follow.

Grenoble born Caroline Hervé, aka Miss Kittin, has in recent years established herself as one of the most
inspiring DJs and voices to emerge within the electronic music scene. Her vocal collaborations have produced
seminal moments of dancefloor heaven. Her tracks with longstanding production partner The Hacker, such as
Frank Sinatra and 1982, propelled them both into the spotlight.
Miss Kittin released her debut solo artist album I Com in 2004, that showed her spreading her wings with jacking
Chicago house, distorted punk attitude, skanked-up dub and electronic pop as the singles Professional Distortion,
Requiem For A Hit and Happy Violentine aptly displayed.
The heavily-accented deadpan delivery over techno beats that established her notoriety on previous recordings has

On her first solo album, I COM, Miss Kittin crushes the "electroclash" pigeonhole that's followed many of her collaborations. Instead, on "Professional Distortion," she gets rock-hard on your ass, all brutal and rough, and "Meet Sue Be She" happily continues that vein. Even "Requiem for a Hit" starts off with some aggressive, if funky, misogyny, but Miss Kittin quickly reclaims feminine power as her own. She also shows surprising range, from the click-house leanings of "Allergic" to the tender ballad to hermaphroditism, "3eme Sexe." There are moments where Miss Kittin seems to have bitten off more than she could comfortably chew, but this album certainly goes down smooth

Miss Kittin (real name Caroline Hervé) is an electronica vocalist and DJ. She was born in Grenoble, France in 1973. At age 22 she began DJing, spinning records in France, Moscow and Chicago with Mike Dearborn. Soon after she met DJ Hell in Marseille who wanted her to record for his International DeeJay Gigolos label. She presented him with the EP Champagne that she recorded with The Hacker. Miss Kittin & The Hacker released First Album in 2001. Several tracks, such as "1982" and "Frank Sinatra", became anthems of the electroclash scene.

Kittin expressed an interest in the visual arts - she studied both contemporary and graphic arts. As time progressed, however, Kittin found herself emulating her parents' musical tastes by developing an interest in musical genres ranging from classic, jazz, funk & disco to English Pop. Finding her niche in Electronic Music in 1991, Kittin raved all around the country before doing her first mix in April of 1993. Her first set came one year later in 1994, at which time she started her career with Tekmics Booking Agency, playing in the famous Dragon Ball wild parties of Southern France.

In pursuit of other opportunities, Kittin left France in 1996 and relocated to Geneva, Switzerland, where she would join the Mental Groove Record Posse one year later. Through years of an exciting and mobile career as a DJ, Miss Kittin is confident with her own personal sound. She states, "I get quickly bored when I listen to the same sound. DJs have to take risks, without only thinking about what people want to hear. Some people say I'm too technical. That's true, but this technique also gives me the freedom to concentrate only on music."

She has become one of the most important figures in electroclash, working with Felix da Housecat, Chicks on Speed, and Golden Boy.

Electroclash, sometimes alternatively spelled as Elektroklash, is a style of music that fuses New Wave and electronic dance music. Larry Tee coined the term, but DJ Hell from Gigolo Records is also often regarded as one of the pioneers of the genre.

Artists associated with electroclash include Felix da Housecat, Freezepop, Miss Kittin and The Hacker, Tiga, Peaches, Le Tigre, Chicks on Speed, Fischerspooner, The Slants and Ladytron. The aesthetic is often associated with the 1982 film Liquid Sky.

The term "Electroclash" first rose to media attention in 2001, when the Electroclash festival was held in New York. This music was a reaction against current electronic music, in favor of an artistic underground movement. These bands took inspiration from New Wave and modern art, and produced a synthesized pop sound. Many of these bands played at art galleries instead of traditional clubs. The artists that initially received the most media attention were Fischerspooner, Peaches, Chicks on Speed, and Miss Kittin and The Hacker. The song that many have thought given the nu-electro sound or blueprint (and a big inspiration to Fischerspooner according to Warren Fischer of the group) was I-f's "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass". The genre had a peak of interest between 2002 and 2004, when many media outlets were focusing on it. Some media outlets heavily promoted the genre in the beginning. Due to this, some people criticized the genre, claiming that it is without substance or that it was created by the media, and often use humor in these criticisms. The Electroclash festival was originally held in 2001 and was held again in 2002 with subsequent live tours across the US and Europe in 2003 and 2004. The festivals have included performances by Scissor Sisters, Felix Da Housecat, Peaches (musician), Fischerspooner, Chicks On Speed, 2 Many DJs, DJ Erol Alkan, Princess Superstar,Mignon (musician), W.I.T., Tommie Sunshine, Crossover, Mount Sims, A.R.E, Weapons, BIS, Avenue D, My Robot Friend, Lawrence Casal,Soviet, and many more. Though popular focus on the genre has died down recently, many of the artists who came from it are still producing music. The Guardian called electroclash and minimalist techno "two of the most significant upheavals in recent dance music history."

Miss Kittin and The Hacker finally release their 1st album on Gigolo. My voice appears on a song with Steve Bug, an album with Felix Da Housecat, an album with my Zurich friend Goldenboy. I am suddenly welcome in France after 5 years of abscence. I took my 1st holidays in 3 years. After shooting the video of "Je t´aime moi non plus" Serge Gainsbourg cover with Sven Väth, I decided to move to Berlin.

Profile: It was in 2001. The "Frank Sinatra" electro ditty, with its light melody and Miss Kittin's cutting sense of humour, has toured the world: "To be famous is so nice. Suck my dick! Lick my ass! In limousines we have sex, every night with my famous friends." Karl Lagerfeld, Marilyn Manson and Elton John (who says he gave a copy to all his friends) are self proclaimed fans of the duo. With Miss Kittin & The Hacker's success, the French music scene has found its, unexpected, second wind after the French touch disco loops.

Caroline Hervé (a.k.a. Miss Kittin) and Michel Amato (a.k.a. Hacker, The) meet in Grenoble during the early 90s at a rave. This trend, at full tilt in the UK, is slow to pick up in France: "In Grenoble, there must have been about 10 of us who went to techno parties", remembers Hacker, The. For many people of their generation, techno is a musical and cultural slap in the face. The two friends both buy decks and become DJs. Their notoriety, essentially on a national scale, grows little by little. In 1996, the French label, Tekmics, asks Miss Kittin to write a track for a compilation. She turns to The Hacker for help (he is already producing tracks under the XMF project and techno themes on his own). The Miss Kittin & The Hacker duo sees the light of day. Their first track is called "Gratin Dauphinois". Others are soon to follow…

At this time, techno, in the strictest sense of the term, is at its apogee. The tempo often rapid and the music violent, based on a layering of hypnotic loops. Miss Kittin & The Hacker use this style when DJing (Jeff Mills is one of their heroes), but they decide to take a different direction with their compositions, preferring to dive into naïve, free and easy electro-pop. Their arrangements are direct, spontaneous, seemingly unplanned, and mainly generated with basic material (some synths, a beat box, a microphone…). Miss Kittin & The Hacker's tunes are somewhat unorthodox. Their techno has a song-like format, based on the verse-chorus pop schema and is heavily influenced by the 80s (Cabaret Voltaire, Depeche Mode or New Order in particular).

Munich's DJ Hell, who is in the process of founding the International Deejay Gigolo Records label, loves the duo's demos and signs them in 1997. The first Miss Kittin & The Hacker EPs (e.g. "Champagne! E.P." and "Intimités EP") are an immediate hit, even beyond the Rhine. The hit, "1982" (a throw back to the music of that year), even makes it onto MTV Germany. Another track quickly sets itself apart, "Frank Sinatra", a distinct and delirious anthem, composed during an afternoon jam in the Ozone records shop studio in Grenoble.

Miss Kittin & The Hacker soon find themselves playing live. An impressive sight to behold: Her, exuberant, front stage, dressed as a dominatrix nurse and Him, in the background, statuesque behind his machines. The ultimate 1980s duo fantasy: The Diva under the burning spotlights and the composer in the shadows. Soon, other artists make names for themselves using the electro-pop glam vocal formula. Tiga and Fischerspooner both become stars under the electroclash banner of which Miss Kittin & The Hacker are recognised as pioneers.

Preceded by a new single version of "Frank Sinatra" ("Frank Sinatra 2001"), "First Album" is released in 2001. This first album revisits the themes that the French seem so fond of: Synthetic smiley and naive electro-pop ("Life On MTV", "Stock Exchange"…) or darker and pernicious ("Stripper"), distinguished by Miss Kittin's French accented voice, full of de-rision. The album earmarks a next step. Touring intensifies, the duo play every weekend and fly to America, Canada and South America…

At the end of the summer of 2002, electroclash reaches its peak. Miss Kittin & The Hacker are at their summit. It's here that they decide to call it a day. "We were knackered, we needed to take a break, take time out for other projects and not tie ourselves down to one musical style", admits Hacker, The. Many spoke of a split, not true. "We never sepa-rated, we just took a long break" grins Miss Kittin.

Late 2002, Miss Kittin & The Hacker, together as well as solo, become points of reference within electronic music. The former is a sought-after voice (collaborating with Felix Da Housecat, Sven Väth…), a DJ star with an eclectic ear (demonstrated by her mix CDs: "Radio Caroline Volume 1", "A Bugged Out Mix By Miss Kittin"…) and with a successful album under her belt going from ("I Com", 2004). The latter goes on to become an unrivalled electro and techno DJ, EPs to remixes (Marc Almond, Laurent Garnier, AIR, Nitzer Ebb…). His career takes a new turn with the success of his second album, "Reves Mecaniques" (2004), propelled by the hit, "Flesh & Bone".

Finally, amid their flowering solo careers, the duo once again come together as they did initially, by accident. Throughout 2006, spontaneously, without any pressure and just for the fun, the French duo compose a few tunes together. Two of these come out in the spring of 2007 on the "Hometown EP" (released by GoodLife, founded in 1998 by The Hacker and his friend Oxia). Miss Kittin & The Hacker full of new perspectives and seemingly complementary extremes. "Hometown" encompasses a light, emotional disco theme (in homage to their hometown Grenoble). "Dimanche", written in Berlin on return from an afterparty, is darker minimal techno influenced by the 1990s raves.

Very quickly a tour is organised. Kicking off with a huge gig in front of thousands of people under the famous "Pont du Gard" bridge in South France, in July. Each date is the same: A massive turnout. The duo uses this experience to define a new on-stage style. THE RISING YEARS

End of 96 I moved to Paris, sharing a very special house with Sex Toy, Rachid Taha, and owners of the now famous gay club Le Pulp. The Hacker and me recorded "Frank Sinatra" for DJ Hell's label. I started to hang around half of the time in Geneva with my friends from Mental Groove records/shop.

Summer 97, I left Paris for Geneva. I worked for a few months at the Mental Groove record shop.
The Hacker and me finally released our 1st EP "Champagne!" on Gigolo, with a total of 8 tracks composed while I passed by Grenoble. I immediately started to play more in Germany, as a new member of Gigolo-Disko B booking agency.

In 98, the track "1982" from "Champagne! EP" had an unexpected success, 1st because of promo copies spread over Berlin to underground DJs. That´s where we performed our 2nd live ever, at Suicide club. Few months later, Westbam closed the Love Parade with this track in front of 1 million people. And we began to tour non-stop all around Europe.
In 99, we performed live at the famous mega rave Mayday in Dortmund, Germany: 30,000 people. We released our 2nd EP "Intimités" on Gigolo. I had propositions to collaborate with several musicians for my lyrics.

In 2000, we had our most important gig in Barcelona for Sonar, the advanced music festival. It changed my way of performing, creating an interraction between the audience and us. I had my 2nd visit at Mayday as a DJ. I met Felix Da Housecat in a Swiss festival, next day we were composing "Silver Screen Shower Scene" and "Madame Hollywood" in a small friend´s studio in Geneva.

1ST STEPS

In 94, I did my 1st mix at my boyfriend's, actually due to a funny arguement about his technique. He missed a mix, I explained my point of view, he took it bad and told me to do it myself. I succeeded in my 1st try. Thinking it was easy, so naive I was, I bought my 1st records: Richie Hawtin's Fuse, Robert Hood *Protein Valve* on M plant, Pizzaman...
Still at school, we founded with a bunch of students "Swift Tuttle", a collective offering rave decorations, so we could party for free and earn pocket money. We organized our 1st illegal party in an old military fort in the mountains. I played records for the 1st time in the chill out room on the unique no-pitch turntable. It´s also the 1st time the name "Miss Kittin" appeared on a flyer.
3 months later, I officially played in my 1st party with Eric Rug, Bertrand and Miloch, I had no turntables at home but a plastic box with 20 records. I was missing school to train at a friend's before a gig. After a 3 months job as a cashier in a big supermarket, I bought my 2nd hand pair of Technics from a radio station. I still use them today. I entered Tekmics booking agency created by my friend Miloch.

In 95 and 96, I started to play a lot in the country, 1st in the famous Dragon Bal illegal raves of south of France, but also in Chicago for Mike Dearborn and in Moscow. After conflicts at school, I decided to stop my studies, as DJing was already my half-time job. During summertime I met DJ Hell in Marseille, he just started his label "International Dj Gigolo", I played him a tape with 808 loops I did for fun at some friends´in Geneva, he asked for more.
Back to Grenoble, I called the Hacker, we recorded Frank Sinatra at Kiko´s studio above his record store. We sent it out to DJ Hell, without any other track on a tape. Few weeks later, he was already playing a dub plate of it. He invited me in Munich to play at the legendary Ultraschall club. It was my very 1st visit to Germany.

RAVE REVELATION

I first got in touch with electronic music in a new-wave club in Grenoble, where I met The Hacker. For New Years Eve 90, came a DJ team from Valencia, playing *Bacalao*, this Spanish commercial techno-dance. The club became quickly a dance club, where the DJ played U96, 2 Unlimited, Usura or Transformer 2. I needed money and offered a go-go dancer attraction to the boss, never topless, just entertainers like in Ibiza. The 1st guest-DJs I've seen were Jack De Marseille, Anthony and Jeff Valle. One week later, my friends and I went to our 1st rave party: a revelation. KLF, LFO, Aphex Twin, Autechre and the 1st Warp big releases became our home soundtracks. The French Alps became one of the most exciting party scene in the country.

STUDIES

After a high school degree in economy in 90, I studied art, first in Marseille in 91, then in the Beaux-Arts of Grenoble specialized in contemporary art in 93-94. I finished my cycle in graphic design in Amiens in 95, north of France before starting my full time DJ job.

CHILDHOOD

Born in 1973 in Grenoble, a medium town in the Alps, south east of France. Due to my young parents, music was everywhere at home, from Genesis, Supertramp, Miles Davis, Philadelphia Sound, Maria Callas, Pink Floyd and of course, The Beatles. I remember my Mum doing the housekeeping on Vivaldi's 4 seasons... Around 6, I was often playing piano for fun at my grand-parents', reproducing melodies from the radio. They decided to pay me lessons but I gave up after 2 years. I also practiced ballet from 5 years old to 22.
